On Friday we discussed what the next few days would look like. I explained that we would have a section from the textbook, a video and a reading in one session. However, knowing that technical issues are inevitable, I have decided to make the first 3 sessions from one source at a time. This will allow students to practice as well as allow me to more efficiently field incoming issues. (If you have a technical issue, please email me and I will work on it as soon as possible).
Therefore, this Week 1 – Session 1 will come directly from in interactive textbook. Students will work through a 2-step process: 2 interactive text lessons and take a Microsoft Forms Quiz. (ALL students practiced logging on to the textbook on Friday so they should be familiar with the process). (Really cheezy video with instructions at bottom of post... Your welcome!) Step 1 If you are using your phone – Log on to the digital text by scrolling down to the bottom of this page. Select the ‘Digital Textbook’ button. Also, the pages will look better if you turn your phone horizontally (sideways). Note: If you have an Apple phone, you will need to ENABLE popups in settings to be able to use the textbook. I am confident you can figure this out. 😊 If you are using a computer – Look to the right, select ‘Digital Textbook’
Complete the Microsoft Quiz. Yes, this is for a grade. It is important I know what you are learning and what you understand. The results will gauge what I need to go over again and how we move forward. Button for easy access to quiz at bottom of post! https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=-x3OL5-ROEmquMR_D8kYLRAqVH9rJFVMsqPBmguBDMNURDBQNjBKSjRHT0U5S1RSU0wyTktNMlNFUC4u What’s next… All lessons that are assigned are done so with a purpose. They are designed to continue to move learning forward. The results of the quizzes will be evaluated to ensure students are still getting the best instruction possible. I will be sending notifications for online meeting times. I will most likely use the ZOOM application which is very easy to use. Stay tuned for more information… I will be uploading the next lesson on Wednesday that will be focusing on NewsELA. I am hoping to have all textbook technical issues fixed by then and ready to fix all NewsELA issues that will surely arise. Be Safe, I miss you already!

Dear families,
I know the closing will be a stressful time, but I hope I can still provide some consistency for your child. I will be creating lessons that will move us forward with our learning. These lessons will be available on my blog starting Monday 3/16. The lessons will be posted by week and session (ie. Week 1-session 1, Week 1-session 2…). As of right now, there is no definitive answer as to how long schools will be closed, so please work on assignments. I will be collecting grades as we work through information. Most will be through the Microsoft platform using forms. Links will be attached to sessions. I know not all students have access to technology and internet, so today I made packets for those students. I will be available via email each day during my working hours. We will continue to learn in an interactive way using the technology available to us. I will be updating the blog with additional resources so please check in regularly. This is a new procedure and I am sure there will be kinks that will need to be worked out, so please be patient with me... Today we practiced how to get onto the digital textbook and looked at how to access assignments. We also looked at Discovery Education and NewsELA. Students can access Discovery Ed from MackinVIA. Students created a NewsELA account linked to my class so they can access assigned articles. (Below are classroom codes, just in case). I will be working on Microsoft meetings so we can virtually meet. I have not used this tool and I am not sure how it will work, but stay tuned for more information.
