The class took this test last Thursday and Friday. I have returned all papers but not all grades are in the grade book. This assessment required students to explain their learning. This is a very difficult task for students, especially 6th graders. I spent a good portion of the class yesterday and today reviewing CER, how to explain, as well as reviewing the content. Students who earned below an 80% may revise. Periods 1, 4, and 5 revisions will be due on Friday and periods 2 and 3 revisions will be due next Tuesday. IF NO REVISION IS TURNED IN BY THE DUE DATE, THE ORIGINAL GRADE STAYS. (Please review the videos below if you would like to review the content or CER).

We have begun discussing the origin of the universe. We have had some great, head spinning conversations. We will be working our way through 8 stations where we will investigate the universe and Milky Way Galaxy. I am suspecting this will take the rest of the week.
Today read an article about where the sun is located in the Milky Way. There is a better version on line with great videos. Please open the link and watch the videos. Students have done well with their writing and their CER has impressed me. I am attaching 2 videos that will help with their writing as well as content. You Got This!!! I am always overwhelmed with the amazing student support at Griffin and tonight was no different. What's coming up: Thursday (Periods 1, 2, 3) and Friday (Period 4 and 5) will be testing over the historical models of the early universe. They are allowed to create a 'cheat sheet' for this test. The 'cheat sheet' may be 1 side of a 3x5 index card. The card must be in their handwriting and they will turn it in when they are finished with their test. Iceland: My apologies, the Iceland meeting will be on August 22nd. I am attaching the PPT from Open House if you would like to take another look.
We have spent this week learning about the early historical models of the solar system. Students have been practicing time management moving from station to station to complete the tasks. Each class period will get 2 days to complete the stations. That being said, anything not complete was assigned as homework. The stations that should be completed is: 1. Brain Pop with Quiz, 2. Vocabulary (heliocentric, geocentric, solar system, Big Bang Theory, and universe), 3. Origin of the Solar System worksheet, (to be graded) 4. Heliocentric/Geocentric graphic organizer. (to be graded) Periods 1, 2, and 3 will have this due on Thursday 14th. Period 4 and 5 will have it due on Friday. Don't forget, Open House will be next Tuesday, August 20th. This year has already started off amazing! I am thrilled with the students. They are inquisitive and have impeccable manners. Thank you for sharing them with me. We have begun a stations activity in class and one of those stations asks students to navigate to my my blog and fill out closed notes. This is a great way to orient students with how to reach the blog as well as classroom and school PBIS expectations. Feel free also view the Power Point.
