Updates:
We have an update on when we will be meeting. Moving forward, we will have different days for ZOOM meetings. I will continue to meet at 10 and noon but it will be on Tuesdays instead. Yes, I will still have Mexican food. It will just be Taco Tuesday instead of Nacho Wednesday. Here is the new schedule: Monday-Math Tuesday- Science Wednesday- Social Studies Thursday- Language Arts/Reading Today's Assignments. I hope you have learned a lot about weathering by this point. Today you will do a little review by reading the book and interactive assignments. Step 1 You have 2 options to read the information: 1. If you have the text and want to read the book, it is from pages 385 - 392. 2. If you prefer to read on line, simply log on to the online textbook and you will see the reading I have assigned. Step 2 For this step you must log on to the textbook. I have assigned an interactive activity where you will watch and complete the activity. Step 3 Complete the quiz below. I know some of you are skipping the reading and other assignments and going straight to the quiz. I can tell because of your grades are not as good as they should be and I can see if you have actually logged into the textbook. Please take your time and you may answer the quiz more than once if you would like. Remember, we are trying to raise your grades as much as possible to end the quarter strong! Click the button below to go to the quiz.

I hope you had a good time with the activity yesterday. We had fun doing it! Today you will continue to learn about weathering. However, we will be taking a look at chemical weathering. Both break things down into smaller pieces, except chemical does it... chemically. A BIG clue is acid. When the agent of weathering says "acid" then you know that is chemical. Also, chemical CHANGES the item when it breaks down. For instance, think about rust on metal. The metal is being broken down due to oxidation, the result is something different...RUST. See the lesson below for explanation. Today there will be three steps to learning about chemical weathering. Step 1 View the video that Mrs. Sprinkle and I made. I would like your to follow along, so I am attaching a form below. (They are exactly the same; there are two ways you can use them). You have two options: 1. If you would like to PRINT it, download the file. 2. If you would like RECREATE your own, scroll through the document. The main point is comparing how the candy changes AND comparing our sample to your sample.
Step 2 View the Nearpod I made. Again, you may want to take notes. Make sure you zoom into the 360 view pictures. There is some cool stuff to see. Step 3 You will watch the Brain Pop video AND TAKE THE QUIZ. Please do NOT skip this step. It lets me AND you know what you still do not understand. Remember you can always watch the video again. Click the button below go to Brain Pop. If you do not want to go through MackinVIA you can use the login below. Username: griffinwildcats Password: cobb Tomorrow - Wednesday! (if you forgot what day it is) Don't forget that tomorrow is our ZOOM day. There is a new privacy setting on Zoom. You must use the passwords to log in and I will have a 'Waiting Room' to make sure only my students are joining. I will have 2 sessions. 1. The first is for science instruction. We will play some games and you can ask questions. Password: 7iB1Ux 2. The second session is for lunch. Make some food and come hang out. Password: 7fmD5D Can't wait to see you tomorrow! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. We had some lovely days to be outside. I hope you stepped away from electronics and enjoyed your week off. I have completely enjoyed your FlipGrids. Wow we have some foodies in class! I have not used this platform before and it was so awesome to see all your faces and hear your voices...it warmed my heart. I tried to send 'stick notes' to you as feedback but not sure if it worked. I will try to do video comments soon. I will let you know when it is updated. I enjoyed seeing your faces so much I am going to start discussion posts here. You get to discuss topics (see how I didn't say argue) and I get to see your faces - win / win! New assignment format I have received some feedback that you are having a lot of work. So I scaled back the lessons. Each day you will have a few activities and you will have an assessment on the last day. I will place your assignments on the blog Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be no new assignments on Friday. You can use it as a make up day or start the weekend early... if you are done with all your work. 😉 Week 4 - Session 1 Today we are starting a new unit. There are two steps for our lesson. Step 1 Our wonderful, amazing, incredible science team recorded a video for you. I encourage you to complete the activity with us. You can pause the video and get the materials you need. Have fun, we did! Step 2 I have created a Nearpod for your to explore. You may want to take a few notes on the information. It is a fun interactive way to learn the material. Click on the button below to open the Nearpod. When the page opens, select 'Join Session'. This will take you to the lesson. Hint for tomorrow: You may want to have Skittles for tomorrow's lesson... Dear Griffin Families and Students,
It is with a heavy heart that I write you. We are all aware of the notice to not return to school for the remainder of the year. Even though this is what is best for the population, it is still hard to accept. There were many more things to be learned and laughs to be had. What does this mean for me? I will still be teaching…virtually. I will be creating video activities that you will follow along with and complete at home. I will be experimenting with different ways to use technology to make learning fun. What does this mean for you? You will still be learning…virtually. You will be watching video activities, following along, and completing at home. You will be experiencing different ways to use technology that makes learning fun. This is not the outcome that anyone wanted. However, there is always a silver lining. For instance, I have wanted to learn how to bring more technology into the classroom. Now, I can experiment with different platforms. I use the feedback I get from you to see what works and what does not. YOU are learning a MUCH needed skill: TIME MANAGEMENT. This is the biggest problem that 6th graders face and you are rocking it! Also, you are learning how to be accountable for your own work. You don’t have me reminding you, daily, to turn things in. You are having to keep track of your assignments and stay on top of your work. This is a life skill that will help you become a more successful person! What now? We will continue to learn. The school year is not over and just like anything in life, you will get out of things what you put into it. If you choose to not work, you choose to not learn. (Super sad face ☹). You can use this time to become a better student just as I use this time to be a better teacher. Know that you are cared for and deeply missed! If you need me, for instruction of just to chat, please reach out. We will make it happen. Spring break is next week. There will be no assignments due. If you are missing work, you may turn it in next week, but I will be no NEW assignments. I encourage you to do a few things:
Miss you like Crazy, Mrs. NeSmith Please take a few moments to fill out this quiz.
Miss Ya'll I read a cool article this morning that I wanted to share with you. Remember all the bacteria that lives in super hot water? Well, scientists are using that bacteria to help with the COVID-19 pandemic. I am posting a link to the article below. Pretty Cool! Tomorrow is our ZOOM day.
I will have 2 sessions. There will be a morning session @ 10 and then a lunch session @ noon. I will be making some sort of nachos...it's Wednesday! Feel free to eat whatever you want just come hang out. I can't wait to see ya'll! Below is a NearPod that will give you more information. The code is DZMKW. Below is a PowerPoint that will give you even more information... Have fun!
Yep you read right, you have 1 assignment this week. You will be creating a comparison of the Earth’s layers. You will be comparing the density, temperature, thickness, and composition of each layer and how it compares to others. You will create something…. Literally ANYTHING to compare the layers of the earth. Step 1 It can be a PowerPoint, skit, brochure, cartoon, GoAnimate, rap, cake, cookies… literally ANYTHING! Have fun just remember to GIVE ME ALL THE CONTENT. Please look at the file attached that says Earth’s Layers. This is a template for the information you need. You can recreate the attached form if you like.
Step 2 Upload your creation to FlipGrid for your class. Click on the buttons below to go to your classroom’s grid. Step 3 I would like you to comment and view your peers work. BUT there are rules:
Missing You EVERYDAY!!! Today we will continue to learn about Earth’s layers. Again you will have 3 steps to today's session. Step 1 - Discovery Education You will start by watching a video on Discovery Education. Please log on through MackinVIA. You should have a video assigned for you. If not, the video you are to watch is Internal Structure of the Earth (4:20) and an exploration assignment Internal Structure of the Earth. Step 2 - BrainPOP Again through MackinVIA, you will go to BrainPOP. You have been assigned Earth’s Structure. I would like you to complete the Quiz. If there are parts of the quiz you didn’t get, feel free to re-watch the video 😊 Step 3 - Kahoot! I have a Kahoot for you. It's in 'challenge mode' so there is no timer. I want you to focus on the correct answer rather than being first. I have not done one like this before, so please let me know if you have any issues. Click the button below to take you to Kahoot.it! Have fun MISS YA'LL LIKE CRAZY!!!!!
Mrs. N Good Morning. I hope you are all able to stay current with your work. The best thing I can recommend is that you STILL USE YOUR AGENDA. I know it can be easy to put things off because the due dates are longer than normal. However, I see where this is creating some stress for some of you. Please, try the best you can to do the work for the classes you would see that day. Try to stay on the M-F rotating block schedule as best as possible. This is will make your life easier. Notes first: I have double booked myself today so the ZOOM times will have to change. I will still have the 10 am ZOOM but lunch and PM ZOOM have changed. Please make notes of the changes! You will still use the buttons in Mondays post to go to ZOOM. Nacho Lunch 12:00-12:30 Afternoon ZOOM 1-2 Session 2 - You will have 3 steps to the assignment. Please note the assignment will close in 5 days. This means you have 5 days to do all the assignments for Session 2! Step 1 Go to the online textbook. You will have an interactive assignment for the layers of the earth. Take your time and work through the assignment. You may wish to take notes. Step 2 Watch the YouTube video. Good information!
